RCS founder praises four decades of radio expertise

It gives me great pleasure to commend Robin Prior on his remarkable book  Maths, Art, or Magic? Radio Station Scheduling and Programming .

“When I founded Radio Computing Services and created Selector, our vision was to bring mathematical structure and efficiency to the art of radio programming. Over the decades, Selector and its successors have been used by broadcasters worldwide, but what has always distinguished the best programmers is not simply their mastery of the software, but their ability to blend science with creativity and intuition.

“Robin embodies this rare balance. During his more than forty years with RCS, including his leadership as RCS Africa VP and his pioneering work in developing and implementing digital playout systems, Robin consistently demonstrated deep technical knowledge, sound judgment, and a unique sensitivity to what makes radio truly connect with listeners.

“His book distils that wealth of experience into a guide that is as practical as it is inspiring. By exploring the interplay of mathematics, artistry, and what can only be described as magic, Robin has provided broadcasters and programmers with a thoughtful framework to understand not just how scheduling works, but why it matters. His 16-step methodology, his attention to the listener’s emotional journey, and his integration of modern media strategies make this work both timely and timeless.

“I am proud to have worked with Robin and to see his contributions to the field recognized in this way.

“Maths, Art, or Magic?  will serve as an invaluable resource for radio professionals everywhere, and a fitting testament to the knowledge and passion Robin has shared with our industry.”

With appreciation and respect,
Andrew Economos, PhD
